Almonds
A whole tree nut used raw, roasted, or ground into flour and butter. Almonds are mostly monounsaturated fat with useful protein and fibre, and they arrive in a product as a recognisable single-ingredient food rather than an extract or an isolate.
also known as Prunus dulcis, Sweet almond
Almonds appear on labels as whole nuts, slivers, flour, butter, or as the base of almond milk. Because they are minimally processed, they carry their fat, protein, and fibre together, which is why they behave differently in a product than an isolated oil would.
What to look for on a label is company: almonds next to dates and cocoa is a very different product from almonds next to corn syrup and natural flavours. The nut itself is not the variable — the rest of the list is.
Why it’s classified this way
Classified Safe as a minimally processed whole food that carries its fat, protein, and fibre together.
