Cane Sugar

Sucrose crystallised from sugar cane juice. Metabolically it is sugar — there is no meaningful nutritional gap between cane sugar, beet sugar, and the versions sold as "raw" or "organic". What matters is how far up the ingredient list it sits.

also known as Sucrose, Evaporated cane juice, Turbinado

Cane sugar is listed under a surprising number of names — evaporated cane juice, turbinado, demerara, muscovado — and a label can carry several of them at once, which spreads the total across multiple positions in the list instead of one high one.

Read it against the added-sugars figure on the nutrition panel rather than on its own.

Why it’s classified this way

Not a contaminant or an additive, but still an added sugar worth counting — hence Neutral rather than Safe.
